Office Map Editor — user guide

Everything you can do with the editor, in the order you normally do it. Nothing here needs an account: the plan lives in your browser until you export it.

1. Start a plan

Pick a mode

Office or Store at the top left. Each mode has its own set of elements and templates.

Start from a template

Templates opens a gallery of ready layouts with furniture and department zones. Click one to load it — it always opens in the style it was designed in.

Or start from your own plan

Upload plan places an image of an existing floor plan behind the canvas. Use the opacity slider to fade it, and Remove plan to take it away. Auto-trace can detect dark walls and closed rooms for you.

2. Place and arrange elements

Add an item

Click an element in the left palette, then click the plan. Use the search box or the Recent row to find items fast.

Move, resize, rotate

Drag to move, drag a corner handle to resize, use Rotate 90° or the rotation slider in the right panel. While dragging you see the size in metres and the gap to the nearest neighbour.

Select several

Drag on empty space to select a group, Shift+click to add. Ctrl+G groups them, Ctrl+Shift+G ungroups. Duplicate copies an item with all of its properties.

Tidy up

Space evenly (Across / Down) spreads the selected items with equal gaps. Snap to grid keeps everything aligned.

3. Walls, rooms and zones

Draw walls

Pick Wall and drag on the plan. The tool stays active so you can keep drawing; corners are mitred automatically and touching walls are glued together. Escape finishes.

Snap and align

Walls snap to corners, intersections and the edges of furniture — a marker shows where they join. Hold Shift while moving to keep a wall on one axis.

Department zones

Zone outline turns clicks into an outline; click the first point or press Enter to close it. Zones can be renamed, reshaped by their corners, and moved as one.

Floor covering

Floor area paints carpet or parquet under the furniture; rooms can have their own covering.

4. Properties — who sits where

Name things

Select an item and type a name in the right panel. The name shows on the plan.

Who sits here

On desks, chairs and meeting tables you get a Who sits here field. Add any other field with + Field — department, phone, asset number.

Edit in bulk

Select several items and use Set a field on all selected to fill one field at once, or Rename all to number them (Desk 1, Desk 2…).

Find people

The search box at the top right finds a person, desk or department and highlights it on the plan.

5. People and teams

Sign in creates an account with your email and password (confirm the address once by email). Anyone with the link can still view the map, but only signed-in people can change the directory.

Employee directory

People opens the directory: add a colleague with name, job title, department and email, then search by any of them.

Seat someone

Select a desk on the plan, open People and press Seat here. The name appears above the desk; Find jumps to a colleague's seat and Unseat frees it.

Who is in today

Mark in records that someone is in the office today. The dot next to the name turns orange, and In today filters the list to people currently in.

Departments

Departments work as neighbourhoods: filter the directory by department and draw the matching zone outline on the plan.

6. Share with the team

Publish the map

Share → Publish map uploads every floor to the cloud and gives you a link. Save to cloud updates it later.

Invite colleagues

Invite by email and choose a role: admin manages people and settings, member edits the map, guest views and comments. The invite applies the moment they sign in with that email.

Link for everyone

Turn on “Anyone with the link can view” to let people open the map read-only without an account.

Comments and history

The Comments tab keeps notes for the team, and History lists every cloud save so you can restore an earlier plan.

7. Views and wayfinding

2D and 3D

Switch between 2D and Isometric. In 3D each item has its own height and elevation sliders. Click straight on a sprite to select it.

Styles

Vector, Realistic and Icons change how elements are drawn — the plan itself stays the same.

Routes

Wayfinding builds a walking route between two points, around walls and furniture, and shows distance and time. Show on map pins every item of a type. ⇗ copies a link that opens the route for someone else.

Navigate the canvas

Space or middle mouse button pans, the +/− buttons zoom, Fit shows the whole floor, and the mini-map shows where you are.

8. Save, share and print

Automatic saving

Everything is saved in your browser as you work, per floor. Use + Floor for more levels and Rename to label them.

Versions

Save version keeps a named snapshot of the current floor; restore or delete it later. Undo / Redo (Ctrl+Z) covers the everyday mistakes.

Files

Save to file downloads the whole project as a .map.json, Open from file loads it back. Export / List (CSV) gives a table of elements, PNG and Print produce a picture and a printable sheet.

Area take-off

The Area & materials block adds up floor covering, rooms and zones, wall length and surface and room volume. Scale and Ceiling height only affect these figures, not the drawing.
